The Future of Iran-Pakistan Academic linkages

Recently, a delegation of Iranian academics, researchers and academic leaders visited Islamabad to participate in the Second International Conference on Iran-Pakistan Academic-Cultural Dialogue. Held from July 2-3, 2024, at Allama Iqbal Open University, this event was organized in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. The conference aimed to strengthen the academic and cultural bonds between the two countries to foster sustainable relations.

The delegation, which included Vice Chancellors from six Iranian universities, discussed various topics with their Pakistani counterparts. Key focus areas included enhancing academic cooperation, cultural exchanges, and collaborative research projects. During the conference, participants proposed the establishment of an Iran-Pakistan Universities Centre to serve as a hub for future collaborations, as well as the creation of Pakistan Chairs in Iranian universities and vice versa.

Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, who addressed the closing ceremony, emphasized the deep historical, cultural, and religious ties between Pakistan and Iran. He highlighted the importance of leveraging these ties to strengthen bilateral relations through academic and cultural engagements. HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed and the head of the Iranian delegation, Dr. Seyed Abolhassan Navab, both underscored the necessity of overcoming economic barriers and enhancing trade relations to bolster the overall cooperation between the two nations.
